Brush is lighter work than timber, but it hides things. Old fencing, junk piles, stumps, holes and soft spots are common under a thicket, and they change both the method and the cost once they turn up.
Picking a method for brush
Light, waist-high growth can often be handled with a heavy rotary cutter behind a tractor. Thicker stands of saplings and vines call for a mulching head or a skid steer with a brush cutter. Where the goal is bare ground, the brush can be pushed into piles and either hauled or burned where rules allow.
Ask whether the method will leave stubs that can puncture tires. Sharp sapling stems cut at an angle are a real problem for mowers and trucks afterward.
Keeping it from coming back
Most East Texas brush resprouts from the roots. Plan on regular mowing or shredding after the first clearing, and talk to the contractor or the county extension office about follow-up options for persistent plants such as sumac, tallow and privet. A cleared field that is seeded and mowed stays open far longer than one left alone.
Frequently asked questions
Can brush be burned instead of hauled?
Sometimes. Check with Henderson County for burn bans and with TCEQ on outdoor burning rules before planning on it.
My lot is mostly trees, not brush. Is this the right service?
Probably not. Look at land clearing or tree removal instead.
